Ohio Couple With Same Birthday Give Birth to Twins on Their Birthday — Making It a Family of Four Sharing One Special Day
CLEVELAND, OHIO — In a once-in-a-lifetime coincidence, an Ohio couple who share the same birthday ended up giving birth to twins on that very same day — meaning all four members of the family now celebrate together every year.
Scierra Blair and José Ervin Jr., both born on August 18, welcomed their twins — José Ervin III and A-r’ia Lannette Ervin — just after midnight at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital.
The couple reportedly asked doctors to delay the delivery until after midnight so the twins could share their parents’ birthday, turning August 18 into a remarkable day of celebration for the entire family.
A Rare and Heartwarming Coincidence
Doctors and hospital staff were stunned by the rare timing. According to Cleveland Clinic data, the chances of two parents and their twins all sharing the same birthday are less than one in 133,000 — making the Ervins’ story a true medical marvel.
Scierra Blair later shared how special it felt to know the entire family now shares one birthday:
“It’s surreal — it feels like it was meant to be. We didn’t plan it, but it couldn’t have worked out more perfectly.”
Hospital staff joined in the celebration, decorating the delivery room and singing “Happy Birthday” to both the parents and newborns moments after the delivery.
Family’s Joy Turns to Tragedy
Sadly, what began as a story of joy later took a heartbreaking turn.
Just weeks after the twins’ birth, José Ervin Jr. was tragically shot and killed outside a Dunkin’ Donuts in Garfield Heights, Ohio, according to police reports.
Authorities say Ervin was struck during an altercation in the parking lot and later died from his injuries. The suspect fled the scene and remains under investigation.
The Cleveland community has since rallied around Scierra and her newborn twins, offering support through memorial fundraisers and community outreach.
A Legacy of Love and Strength
Friends describe José Ervin Jr. as a devoted father and a “lighthearted spirit” who was excited to raise his children and celebrate their first shared birthday next year.
Despite the tragedy, Scierra has said she finds comfort in knowing her husband’s memory will always live on through their twins — born on a day that already symbolized love, unity, and destiny.
“Every August 18, I’ll celebrate all four of us,” she said. “It’s a reminder that love doesn’t end — it continues.”
