Person Wanted in Wisconsin Homicide Investigation Arrested on I-80 in Nebraska
LINCOLN, NEBRASKA — A man wanted in connection with a Milwaukee homicide investigation was taken into custody by the Nebraska State Patrol Wednesday morning after a coordinated traffic stop along Interstate 80 near Waverly, authorities confirmed.
Troopers Spot Vehicle Between Omaha and Lincoln
According to State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas, investigators received information that a person of interest in the Wisconsin homicide case was traveling west through Nebraska.
“A trooper spotted the vehicle as it was westbound between Omaha and Lincoln,” Thomas said. Additional units quickly joined in, leading to a felony traffic stop around 7:45 a.m. near Waverly.
Troopers ordered the suspect out of the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. The man, believed to be in his 30s, remains in custody as he awaits extradition back to Milwaukee to face charges related to the ongoing homicide case.
Highway Temporarily Shut Down During Arrest
During the arrest operation, Interstate 80 was closed for approximately 30 minutes while officers secured the scene and verified the suspect’s identity. Traffic was diverted during that time but resumed shortly afterward once the area was cleared.
Authorities have not released the man’s name pending formal extradition proceedings.
Multi-State Coordination in Ongoing Investigation
The arrest highlights the collaboration between Wisconsin law enforcement and Nebraska authorities. The Nebraska State Patrol, working from information shared by Milwaukee investigators, acted swiftly to intercept the suspect’s vehicle before it left the state.
Officials said additional investigative work will continue in both states as evidence from the homicide case is reviewed.
The suspect remains in custody in Nebraska as extradition paperwork is processed. Once approved, he will be transferred to Milwaukee County to face charges tied to the Wisconsin investigation.
This latest arrest underscores how interstate cooperation among law enforcement agencies can lead to rapid apprehension of suspects crossing state lines. For continuing coverage of Midwest crime and safety updates, visit NapervilleLocal.com, your trusted source for verified local news.
