Security Camera Captures Cat Dropping Mouse Into Family’s Dinner Pot in California
MERCED, CALIFORNIA — One California family got an unforgettable dinner surprise this week when their foster cat, Wendy, decided to “add her own spice” to the meal — by dropping a dead mouse into a pot cooking on the stove.
Caught Red-Pawed on the Kitchen Camera
The Merced SPCA shared images from a home security camera that caught the bizarre — and slightly hilarious — moment in the foster family’s kitchen. The footage shows Wendy, a playful kitten, climbing near the stove and dropping her “gift” into the family’s pot of food.
“Wendy is a foster failure that was caught on the kitchen cam — or kitten cam — adding spice to her mom’s dinner,” the SPCA joked in a Facebook post. “We should all be as thoughtful as Miss Wendy!”
The cat’s owner said she was outside feeding her dogs when the incident happened. Upon returning to the kitchen, she noticed Wendy acting suspiciously and decided to check the security footage — only to discover what had gone into the pot.
Dinner Plans Quickly Changed
The foster mom told KMPH-TV that after seeing the footage, the family understandably skipped dinner at home and ordered takeout instead.
“As you can guess, it was takeout for dinner that night,” she laughed.
Internet Falls in Love With Wendy’s ‘Helping Paw’
Since the Merced SPCA posted the photos, the story has gone viral, with animal lovers around the country amused by Wendy’s “culinary creativity.” The organization says the incident has only made her more beloved among the shelter staff — and highlighted just how mischievous (and affectionate) foster cats can be.
Wendy remains in her foster home, where she’s now being kept at a safe distance from the stove — and any dinner pots.
