Taco Bell Worker in South Carolina Sparks Outrage After Revealing Frozen ‘Baja Blast Pie’ That ‘Looks Fresh Outta Chernobyl’

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA — Taco Bell’s latest dessert experiment — the Baja Blast Pie — has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after a South Carolina employee filmed her attempt to cut into the new menu item, only to discover it was completely frozen solid.

In a TikTok video that has now surpassed 4.1 million views, Taco Bell worker Jani Galloway (@janibrooke_) shows the bright turquoise pie, topped with whipped cream and a graham cracker crust, being sliced open at her restaurant. The problem? The pie doesn’t budge.

“Bro, this is like a rock,” Galloway says in disbelief as her co-worker struggles to slice through the dessert.

The $19.99 Baja Blast Pie

The Baja Blast Pie, set to officially launch nationwide in early November, is a turquoise dessert inspired by Taco Bell’s cult-favorite soda. Sold for $19.99, it’s described as a frozen custard-style pie featuring a graham cracker crust, whipped cream border, and the unmistakable color of Mountain Dew’s signature Baja Blast flavor.

The pie follows previous Taco Bell experiments with the brand, including Baja Blast gelato and the Baja Midnight flavor earlier this year. But based on social media reactions, this one isn’t off to a smooth start.

‘Looks Fresh Outta Chernobyl’

Galloway’s video left viewers horrified and amused, with comment sections turning into a roast session for the new dessert.

“That looks fresh outta Chernobyl,” one user commented, earning over 95,000 likes.
Another added, “It looks like bar soap and shaving cream.”
A third viewer wrote, “It’s good as a drink, but that sounds absolutely diabolical as a pie.”

Even die-hard Baja Blast fans weren’t convinced.
“Nobody loves Baja Blast more than I do, but what the f— is this?” one TikTok user asked.

Galloway herself confirmed in her caption that the pie “was as bad as it looks,” describing the flavor as disappointing and overly artificial.

What Went Wrong With Taco Bell’s Latest Creation?

According to reports from FoodBeast and discussions in the r/TacoBell subreddit, the pies are shipped to restaurants frozen and need to be thawed before serving. That likely explains the rock-solid texture seen in Galloway’s viral clip.

Customers who sampled the dessert early during Taco Bell’s Live Más LIVE event described it as tasting like a sweeter, tangier version of key lime pie, with a “distinct Baja Blast aftertaste.”

One employee even praised the flavor when properly prepared, writing, “It’s not bad at all if it’s thawed. It just tastes like a key lime pie with a Mountain Dew twist.”

Social Media Can’t Stop Talking

While the video sparked plenty of mockery, it also built curiosity. Many Taco Bell fans now say they want to try the pie for themselves to see if it really tastes as strange as it looks.

“I’m definitely buying this just to say I survived the Baja Blast Pie,” one commenter joked.

Taco Bell has yet to respond publicly to the viral criticism, though insiders say the dessert will remain on limited release through November at select U.S. locations.
