Wearing masks in public and limiting social interactions have become mainstream as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

For 10-year-old Olivia Donnelly, of Naperville, it’s been a way of life.

Donnelly was born with a rare heart condition and has been in and out of the hospital since birth. Long before COVID-19, her mother, Lisa Donnelly, said, she and her family have often had to wear masks and gloves.

“At least everyone gets a taste of what my life is like,” Olivia told her mother.

Lisa Donnelly said Olivia is cognizant of proper mask use and frequently comments when she sees others with their nose sticking out the top of the mask. “Mommy, they’re not wearing their mask right,” Lisa Donnelly said her daughter will say.

Olivia’s most recent heart trouble started in May 2019 when she was a fourth-grader at May Watts Elementary School in Naperville.
